Is it legal to hire a private investigator in Hungary?

Yes. Hungary Eye Info Kft is registered with the Hungarian Police (registration no. 13100-822/5448-5/2024.SZv.) and operates under the Chamber of Bodyguards, Property Protection and Private Detectives (SzVMSzK), registrations 1301/T/91258/2024 and 1301/T/91259/2024. All investigations comply with Hungarian law and GDPR — clients must provide proof of identity and a signed commissioning note before work begins.

What investigation services do you offer?

We provide surveillance, background investigations, fraud investigations, missing persons searches, matrimonial and romance scam investigations, employment/pre-employment screening, and open-source intelligence (OSINT) research on individuals and companies. For corporate clients we also handle due diligence, internal and external fraud investigations, supplier compliance checks, and supply chain investigations under the German Lieferkettengesetz and the EU Whistleblower Directive.

Do you work with businesses outside Hungary?

Yes. Our corporate and commercial clients are primarily risk consultancies, law offices, compliance departments, insurance companies, and HR departments in the UK, US, and Germany, alongside our private client work across Central Europe. Research is conducted in German, Hungarian, and Romanian.

How much does a private investigation cost?

Cost depends on the scope and duration of the investigation — surveillance, background checks, and OSINT research are priced differently. Contact us for a free, confidential consultation and a quote tailored to your case.

Can you provide someone's contact details or address?

Only with the subject's consent, or where there is sufficient evidence of a legitimate interest under GDPR. We do not disclose personal data without a lawful basis, and every case is assessed for compliance before we proceed.

Do private investigators in Hungary serve legal documents?

No. Process serving is not carried out by private investigators in Hungary. If you need this, we can advise on the correct channel.

What is OSINT and how do you use it?

Open-source intelligence (OSINT) is research conducted using publicly available records, media, and online sources rather than physical surveillance. We use it to verify identities, backgrounds, business affiliations, and to support fraud and due diligence investigations, often as a faster and lower-cost first step before fieldwork.

What professional associations are you a member of?

Hungary Eyes' principle holds membership in the Hungarian Detective Association (MDSZ), the Association of British Investigators (ABI) as an overseas member, the World Association of Detectives (WAD), and the Federal German Association for Detective and Investigations Industry (BUDEG), and holds ZAD (German training centre) certification.
